Chalk Tracer · Windows beta
Free golf shot tracer app for PC
Trace your golf videos on your Windows PC, free. Chalk Tracer finds each shot, follows the ball and draws its flight, then exports for TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.
Free, with 5 exports a month. 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. Version 0.2.1, 45 MB zip.
Install it in a minute
- 1
Unzip it
Unzip the download somewhere you can save files, like Documents or your desktop. Not Program Files: Chalk Tracer updates itself in that folder.
- 2
Open Chalk Tracer.exe
The first time, Windows may say it doesn't recognise the app. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Updates don't ask again.
- 3
Sign in and drop in clips
Sign in with your Chalk Golf account, then drag your golf videos into the window. Each one is traced in the background.
What the Windows beta does
Automatic tracing
It hears the strike, finds the ball at impact and follows it, even when the camera moves to follow the ball.
Shape the line
Drag the line or its points, set the curve from draw to fade, the height and the flight time.
Looks and numbers
Seven tracer looks, your own colours and glow, and carry, apex, speed and launch estimates or your launch monitor's numbers.
Scorecards
A leaderboard on each clip for 12 golf games, with saved card designs and rounds.
Putt tracer
Follows the roll to the hole and knows when it drops.
Every shape of export
9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, 16:9 for YouTube, 1:1 or 4:5, in H.264 or HEVC. The crop follows the golfer, then the ball.
Not on Windows yet: the line passing behind the golfer and the swing path, which the Mac version draws with Apple's Vision framework. See everything Chalk Tracer does on the Chalk Tracer page, or put a leaderboard on your round with scorecard overlays.
Free, or Pro
Free with a Chalk Golf account: trace as many clips as you like and export 5 a month with a small Chalk Golf mark. Chalk Golf Pro is $6.99 a month or $49.99 a year, removes the mark and the limit, and includes Swing Studio, the putt helper and green maps in the iPhone app.
Questions
Is there a free golf shot tracer app for PC?
Yes. Chalk Tracer is free on Windows with a Chalk Golf account. You can trace and edit as many clips as you like and export 5 videos a month, each with a small Chalk Golf mark in the top left. Chalk Golf Pro removes the mark and the limit.
Which versions of Windows does it run on?
64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. Everything it needs to read and write video comes in the download, so there's nothing else to install.
Why does Windows say it doesn't recognise Chalk Tracer?
Windows SmartScreen warns about apps it hasn't seen many downloads of, and the beta isn't code-signed yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway. If Chrome says the zip isn't commonly downloaded, choose Keep. You only see this the first time; updates install without it.
What's missing from the Windows beta?
Two things the Mac version does with Apple's Vision framework: putting the line behind the golfer, and tracing the swing path. Everything else is the same, including scorecards, the putt tracer and all the export sizes.
Which videos can I trace?
MP4 and MOV clips from a phone or camera, up to 4K and 60 frames a second. Film from behind the golfer with the ball and plenty of sky in frame, and leave the sound on, because the strike is how Chalk Tracer finds the shot.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Tracing and exporting run on your PC. Your Chalk Golf account only keeps count of your exports.
How does it update?
Chalk Tracer checks for new versions on its own, downloads them in the background and installs them when you quit, or straight away if you choose Restart.
