Ball Tracer
A shot tracer for the videos on your phone
Pick a video of your shot and Chalk draws the ball's flight over it. It finds the strike, follows the ball through the frames and gives you a traced video to keep or share.

Ball TracerFrom clip to traced video
- Film the shot. Stand behind the golfer with the ball and the sky in frame. Keep the phone steady and leave the sound on. 4K or 60 fps gives the sharpest trace.
- Chalk finds the ball. It listens for the strike to find the moment of impact, then follows the ball as it leaves the tee. If it can't tell which ball is yours, it asks you to tap it.
- Shape it and save it. Adjust the height of the flight if you want, pick a tracer colour and save the video to your phone or share it.
What gives the cleanest line
The tracer works from ordinary phone video, so the clip matters. A steady camera behind the golfer, on a tripod if you have one, gives the best result. The ball is easiest to follow against open sky.
Some shots are harder: a phone that swings to follow the ball, a ball lost against bright cloud or glare, or a clip without sound. When Chalk can only see part of the flight, it completes the line from the part it saw and labels the end of the flight as estimated.
Free to try
You can trace a few shots a day without paying. Saving the traced video, and a higher daily limit, come with Pro. Ball Tracer is in the Practice tab of the Chalk app for iPhone.
Questions
Do I need a launch monitor or sensors to trace a shot?
No. Ball Tracer works from an ordinary video of the shot taken on your iPhone. It draws the ball's flight; it does not measure ball speed or spin like a launch monitor.
Can I trace a video I've already filmed?
Yes. Choose a video from your library or record a new shot in the app. Clips filmed from behind the golfer, with the sound on, work best.
Is the shot tracer free?
You can trace a small number of shots each day for free. Saving the traced video, and a higher daily limit, require Pro.
