Everything on the wrist

How it works

  1. Start on your iPhone. Pick the course and start the round. Chalk sends the hole layouts to the watch once: greens, fairways, bunkers and water.
  2. Play from the watch. Yardages update as you walk, using the watch's own GPS. Swipe for hazards, the hole map and your card.
  3. Score as you go. Tap plus, turn the Crown to your score and add putts and the tee shot. It lands on your iPhone scorecard and counts in your stats.

Questions

Which Apple Watch do I need?

An Apple Watch on watchOS 10 or later, paired with an iPhone that has Chalk installed.

Does the watch need my iPhone during the round?

Start the round on your iPhone, which sends the course to the watch. From then on the watch measures with its own GPS. Scores entered on the watch stay on the watch until your iPhone confirms them, so nothing is lost if the phone is out of range for a while.

Which courses have yardages?

Courses with a mapped layout. Where the greens and hazards are mapped, you get front, centre and back distances and reach and carry for each hazard. You can still keep score on any course.

Does a round count as a workout?

Yes. The round runs as a Golf workout in Apple Health, which also keeps Chalk on screen when you raise your wrist. The first time you start one, Health asks for permission.

Can I use voice on the watch?

Yes. Tap the microphone on the hole screen to record a note about the hole. It goes to your iPhone and into the round, like voice mode on the phone.
